I’m a teacher. I have to do better.
I know I can’t be everything to everyone, but I work in a school. The students, whether enrolled in my class or not, drama kid, gamer or jock, are my kids. When kids are in need - confused, misinformed, lost, sad, out of sorts or otherwise require assistance - it is my duty to be… Continue reading I’m a teacher. I have to do better.

My very first book signing
Though not my first published book, this is the first book that I wrote that talks about parts of my life that have impacted me the most. More specifically, my mom. It is also the first one for which I have had the honor of having a book signing event.

What’s in a year?
A lot can happen in a year. Reflecting on the past 365 days, I have done more new things that have been out of my wheelhouse than I have ever done. I have my mom to thank for being my compass.
A Day to Remember
“Grief and love are conjoined, you don't get one without the other. All I can do is love her, and love the world, emulate her by living with daring and spirit and joy.” Jandy Nelson Ronnie Sue Roth was my mom. She was not just kind, she looked out for those she loved passionately. Knowing her… Continue reading A Day to Remember

Back in Flyte
Today, for the first time in a year and a half, I returned to my aerial yoga class at Soul Flyte. I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal - it’s just a workout class, right? Well, not exactly. It takes a lot for me to make a commitment to something. Whatever the activity,… Continue reading Back in Flyte
Smile – COVID Hasn’t Won
For the first time in over a year and a half, I dropped my daughter off at her theatre camp program in Nyack and went for a long walk. For years, this was a regular practice of mine; drop her off, park in my special secret free parking spot, and either start walking or take… Continue reading Smile – COVID Hasn’t Won

What Ronnie Sue Knew – a memoir
What Ronnie Sue Knew is a reflection of Mom's final recollections about her relationships and the things she loved and poured her energies into, as well as the gifts I have received as a result of her existence. The book pays loving homage to her, and details the lessons she taught me, just by living her glorious life.
Navigating Change
When I was a teenager, change was the greatest source of anxiety for me. The burning feeling of fear housed in my solar plexus sat there, unchallenged. It was silent, and sadly, par for the course in my everyday life. Luckily, that feeling didn’t stop me from trying new things or taking on new ventures,… Continue reading Navigating Change

Teaching Mindfulness
In February, 2021, I reached out to the good people at Erika's Lighthouse, a website whose mission is "promoting inclusive school cultures through mental health education." It is a topic that is close to my heart. I had done a series of lessons with my students on developing a more mindful approach to their thought processes and I wanted to share my experience with a broader audience. What better way to do that than a website geared towards educating students and their families about mental health?

Strong Women
Back in April 2020, as COVID was ravaging our world's self-concept, I turned to Facebook for connection, information, and entertainment (shame on me, but I digress...). I had been creating singing videos (I was actually a singer in another life). Teaching high school dance, theatre and PE tends to wreak havoc on the vocal cords,… Continue reading Strong Women
Dances With Tigers
Mrs. Tirro, you should write a memoir. In all my years of teaching dance and theatre at Spring Valley High School (home of the Tigers), I have heard a lot of “Tirro, you should…” statements. They are usually some reflection of a vision someone has of something they think I can do, or what they’d… Continue reading Dances With Tigers
