Anticipation

A few thoughts just before spring break

For a moment

I’m sitting in my desk chair waiting to shut it all down.

The computer

The classroom

The brain

I’m waiting for minutes to tick by

For the mad rush to the door

To the parking lot

So I can shut the door and breathe.

I know that as soon as the door shuts and I drive away,

The countdown begins.

The minutes tick by faster;

24 hours are like 24 seconds

As the home stretch approaches.

As soon as the door closes and I breathe deep, I am mindfully aware that this is borrowed time, a pause in the action, and the uphill sprint will resume again soon.

But for the moment, I look forward to driving away with the windows down, wind assaulting my ears, as I escape the swirl of (un?)controlled chaos.

For a moment.
